Back to School: How to Use it to Your Advantage
It's that time again ... the kiddos are picking out binders, pencils and backing their backpacks. Back to School is top of mind in consumer-land. This time can be a marketing gold mine for your business; you just have to know how to dig. Here are the top 5 marketing tips to make sure your business goes back to school with a bang.
1. Sponsor a local game night - I'm not talking about the Monopoly kind. I mean sponsor a football game. Give out custom designed t-shirts with the school's mascot and a catchy saying like, "Crash the Jets!" with your logo on the back. All kids love receiving free t-shirts. Your shirt will be worn all around town for years to come.
2. Donate classroom supplies - Teachers always appreciate a few extra supplies. Donate some branded presentation folders, pens and pencils , memo books or little bottles of hand sanitizer to several classrooms. The students and teachers will get to know your brand, as well as the students' parents.
3. Maybe your target market is a little older, say college aged kids? A great and useful product for college freshman is a lanyard. Students can attach dorm room keys, his or her campus ID and meal card. Brand the lanyard with your logo or slogan to get your business noticed.
4. Why not give some branded drawstring bags to your local college? These items are great for welcome week. All of the essentials from the school (a student planner, their schedule, a student ID, etc.) can be placed in a convenient carrying bag for the student to pick up at the welcome desk. The drawstring bag is useful so it will be reused for the entire school year, if not longer!
5. Donate your time. All schools love having helpers come into the classroom to teach their students about something new. Whether it is your profession on career day, tips on brushing your teeth correctly, or mentoring a young adult, give back to your community and your community will give back to you.
